What is Romance in the Rain?
From the pioneer days of Seattle through the smoke-filled clouds of WWII and into the present, Romance in The Rain takes readers on a journey with four generations of the strong-willed and passionate Caldwell family. The anthology of six novellas is a collaboration of the Seattle-based Rainy Day Writers group.
Splendor in the Moss by Charlotte Russell—By the spring of 1853 Englishman James Caldwell has traveled thousands of miles in a quest to find a place to call home. Newly settled Seattle isn’t that place and he’s ready to move on again when widowed Mattie Jensen marches into his life as somber as a cloudy day. But James can see through the solemn haze to Mattie’s strength and passion. Now he has a reason to stay, if he can just convince Mattie to take a second chance on love—and him. (22,000 words)
Final Approach by Marianne Stillings—With the world at war, Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Service pilot Lt. Charlene (Charlie) Thompson faces personal battles as well. Pearl Harbor left her a widowed bride, certain love would never come again – but battle-scarred Capt. Joe Caldwell has other ideas for the beautiful lady flyer, if he can just keep her safe from the secret saboteur who's already taken the life of Charlie's best friend. (18,000 words)
Love Phantom by Dawn Kravagna—University of Washington, 1983: A great place to get an education and meet single men. Drama major Kara Caldwell prefers to hide behind the characters in her plays, yet feels pressure to live up to the example set by her brave and witty grandmother, a veteran of WWII. Can she learn to overcome her reticence and prejudices to discover which guy truly cares for her--and who is just putting on an act? (17,000 words)
What’s Wrong with Mr. Perfect? by Sherri Shaw—No sooner did Chef Ivy Turin wish to meet the perfect man than Sam Rockney walked into her restaurant. But is the sexy Seattle quarterback for real or is there something wrong with Mr. Perfect? (17,000 words)
Shelter from the Storm by Clare Tisdale—Seven years and one broken heart later, JD Caldwell returns to Seattle to pick up the pieces of his old life, never imagining he will fall for Maya—the mysterious woman who lets him into her house and bed but keeps the door to her heart tightly closed. When their summer fling takes an unexpectedly serious turn and Maya gives him his walking papers, JD has to decide whether their love—and his legacy—is worth fighting for. (21,000 words)
Aftershocks by Kristine Cayne—When Seattle is struck by a devastating earthquake, technical rescue firefighter Jamie Caldwell must save his estranged wife and daughter from the wreckage of a collapsed building. He's defied the odds hundreds of times, but will his luck finally run out for good? (24,000 words)

DeleteWW11 Widow , hits home for my family.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the excerpt for Final Approach by Marianne Stillings. I think it's a story that will touch many people, and one that needs to be told. Thank you, Patches!
DeleteThanks so much for your post, Patches. I think every family in the US was impacted by the events of WWII, and it's time the women who served deserve to have their stories told. Thanks again, and happy reading! ~Marianne
DeleteSounds awesome. Can't wait to read it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteRhonda - thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I know how incredibly busy you are with your own book launch. Tales from the Mist is high on my TBR!
DeleteI love the premise in all these stories but I'm really intrigued by anything set in WWII. It's a history that us Europeans share with America.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that, Natalie! Marianne Stillings is an amazing author, and I'm certain you'll love Final Approach. Thank you for joining the party!
DeleteNatalie: Thank you so much for your post. You're right - Americans and Europeans have very close ties, especially when it comes to WWII. I hope you'll enjoy all the stories in the book, and especially Joe and Charlie's. (And please keep in mind that when it comes to my "amazing" talents as an author, Kristine is very biased ;) But since she's amazing as well, you are certain to really enjoy her contribution! ~ Marianne Stillings
DeleteI love the story ideas looks like a very good read. Hope I win one so I can read and review it on my blog.
ReplyDeletePenelope - we'd love to have you read and review the book on your blog. If you don't win, send me an email. :)

DeleteSo happy to hear that, Jennifer! I'm sure you'll enjoy reading about the Caldwell heroes and heroines. Thank you for celebrating with us. :)
DeleteI enjoyed the Aftershocks excerpt! I love that the main character, Erica, has to bite her lip to stop herself from apologizing. It shows that she's recently made a change in her life/relationships and is a foreshadow of the rocky roads ahead to challenge her "new" self. I'm also anxious about the four-year old that is in her office, but not in her sights....
ReplyDeleteSo glad I bought it! I'll be finishing the story NOW.
Yay! Thank you so much, April. I'm excited to be kicking off my new rescue firefighter series with this novella. I hope you like it!
DeleteNot entering but thought i'd leave a comment... Me happy! But you already know how much I waited for your story ! Looking forward to discovering the new writers as well !

Thank you, Janna! We wanted to do something a little different with this anthology, and I think we hit on something pretty fun. Sherri Shaw's What's Wrong With Mr. Perfect? is a very fun contemporary romance. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
DeleteThank you, Janna. It was a blast collaborating with my friends on such a fun project. I am so happy to hear you are intrigued by What’s Wrong with Mr. Perfect, and I hope you enjoy the actual story just as much. As for Aftershocks, Kristine Cayne delivers an --on the edge of your seat— adventure you don’t want to miss.
DeleteI read the excerpt from Aftershocks. It was fascinating. I'm anxious to read the rest of the story. I'm curious to see what happens between Jamie & Erica.
ReplyDeletejanna@jannashay.com
Janna - I'm squeeing over here :) I'm so happy you enjoyed the excerpt from Aftershocks. It's a pretty high-octane story, but what else could it be with a group of hunky rescue firefighters? Enjoy :)
DeleteCongratulations, Kristine et al! i love these anthologies that are coming out. It's a great way to try out new authors and get a taste for their writing. Great job, ladies!

Forgot to add this: I read the excerpt for Aftershocks :) The last sentence really got to me. Erica must still harbor a little love for Jamie, even if it's temporarily buried under frustration and anger. They clearly have some issues to work out which might be related to their jobs. I look forward to finding out what it is!
DeleteMichelle - I'm so glad you could stop by. I enjoy anthologies for the same reason. And this one is such a good deal :) Sherri Shaw's What's wrong with Mr. Perfect? is a great story.
DeleteThank you for reading the Aftershocks excerpt. Erica and Jamie definitely have a lot of issues to work out, in addition to the small fact that some serious trouble of the environmental kind is headed their way. I hope you enjoy it :)
Michelle, I hope you will have as much fun reading What’s Wrong with Mr. Perfect as I had writing it. If you liked Kristine’s excerpt, then you’re going to love her book. I know I had a hard time putting it down. Enjoy the anthology, and thank you!
DeleteWhat a lovely cover!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Roxy! The wonderful Scarlett Rugers designed it.
DeleteI read the Love Phantom excerpt. I love that she was distracted by the guy painting backdrops. I love a tall man too :-D
ReplyDeleteoops, forgot to say you can find me at charity@charityparkerson.com
DeleteCharity - so glad you could stop by and check out the excerpts! Love Phantom is a great story and although it's fictional, it rings very true as it's based on the author's personal experience in theater at the UW :)
DeleteHappy release day ladies! I put my order in on Amazon this morning as soon as I realized that it was the 15th. The stories sound incredible & I can't wait to dig in. And how perfect was it that it rained today? Lol!
